FAQs For Owners

What Items can I post for rent? Most anything. Vehicles, aircraft, watercraft, tools, sports equipment. . . The list is endless. A good rule of thumb is to post anything you think someone in your vicinity might choose to rent instead of buy.

What happens if my property is damaged, lost or stolen? Start with prevention. In other words, do not rent your prized possessions or property that someone can damage easily. Second, check with your current insurance provider to determine if a loss or liability would be covered under your existing policy. Third, require a renter to show proof of insurance and submit any claims against the renter's insurance. Finally, ask the renter for a deposit to be returned only after the safe return of your equipment.

How do I know if the renter is trustworthy? When the prospective renter contacts you, start by asking questions about how they intend to use your item and their experience with the item. Secondly, Idle Assets provides a feedback mechanism where a member can enter a username and read reviews about a potential renter. Look for a link on the Member Home Page. You're encouraged to post feedback (both good and bad) in an effort to help police the system.

What can I do if someone posts negative feedback about me or my item? Letting renters post both positive and less-than-positive remarks about members and items is a necessary part of this system. You are encouraged to contact members who posted poor comments to determine what can be improved. You are also able to post comments about yourself and your items which allows for a rebuttal.

How do I receive payment? It is your responsibility to collect all payments in a manner and at a time of your choosing.

How much does it cost to list an item? There are no posting fees. You can list every item you own for nothing. Over time, we will incorporate fees for using Idle Assets so post your listing now while it's still free!

What do you charge? The Idle Asset website is free of charge to both the owner and renter.

How many items can I post at a time? You can post as many items as you wish at any time. Just login and select Post a Listing on the Member Home page.

What is the "Wanted" tab for? The "Rental Wanted" items are posted by people who want to rent property but have not found what they are looking for already posted on the site. Owners can use the service to look for people who may want to rent their stuff. Feel free to contact the person who posted the item and do business. Again, the service is free of charge.

It is best to talk about common eventualities with the owner before renting.
